Pattern: George + Ginger 40k Sway top (free)
Fabric: Waffle Knit from Sincerely Rylee in the colorway Rust
Size: 14 graded to 18 at the hips
The biggest thing to note on this pattern is the seam allowance. Most garment patterns both Big 4 and Indie use a 5/8″ seam allowance, with a few standard exceptions (collars, under stitching, lingerie). The seam allowance for this pattern was only 1/4″.
My overall thoughts on the pattern are — it’s free!
If this is your first George & Ginger pattern, you may be a little underwhelmed. I did not do any other views than the faux placket version. Without the snaps, the binding will flip down. I put in a short straight stitch at the top edge of the binding where it crosses over the other end of the binding (at the point of the asymmetrical ‘V’).
My usual alterations are adding 1.5″ in length to account for my height being 4″ taller than the intended pattern block. I did not add to this length, as I knew I was making some high rise leggings to go with the top for a cozy pajama set. Check those out on my Instagram!
