The North Alabama Foster Closet (NAFC) is a wonderful volunteer-run organization that meets the needs of the numerous families and children across the state. Constantly, they go above and beyond to provide basic items for foster, kinship, and respite.
So you want to donate to the Foster Closet, that’s great! And thank you so much! Here’s a list of how to make sure what you are donating is helpful:
- Shop from the NAFC Amazon Wishlist
- Buy new items that are in season, or pajamas. There is always a high need for pajamas.
- Are your items used? Check for the following:
1- Make sure it is clean with NO stains or tears
2- Item is in season
3- Item is functional
4- Age appropriate (newborn to 18) - NO used toys, often these are donated in abundance and there simply isn’t enough room to store everything.
- Check the FB page – occasionally there will be a call to action to source a specific, high priority need.
The families receiving these wonderful gifts often need the items in an urgent situation and do not have time or energy to repair items, please make sure the items are in good condition. The volunteers frequently send used donations that do not meet the above criteria on to other organizations because their current space is small and can only hold so much.
Lastly, do you have a special talent and feel called to help, but aren’t sure how? Reach out! As a homeschooling mother of three children, one of which has special medical needs, I don’t have the resources to volunteer in person. However, I am a champ at speed/batch sewing pajamas and am happy to knock out a handful of pajama sets when they are needed.
Thank you for helping out the North Alabama Foster Closet! Contact NAFC and let them know if you want to help, everyone can help in their own way!
